Mantra Drivers Receive Red Cross First Aid Training
Road traffic accidents in Nigeria continue to be a cause for concern with 2,407 recorded accidents during Q2 2024. This figure represents a decline from Q1, but there were still 661 recorded fatalities as a result of these accidents. Several factors can cause road vehicle accidents, including speeding, dangerous driving habits such as wrongful overtaking, poor vehicle maintenance resulting in burst tires and the poor state of the roads in Nigeria.
As a leading provider of security services in Nigeria, we at Mantra take the safety and security of our Clients extremely seriously. However, we cannot control the behaviour of other road-users, which has the potential risk of one of our vehicles being involved in a road traffic accident.
We already have an established defensive driving training program for our drivers. In addition, we recently conducted first aid training in conjunction with the highly respected Nigerian Red Cross Society. The aim of the training was to equip all of Mantra’s drivers and Chief Protection Officers (CPOs) with the essential first aid skills for an appropriate emergency response should any incidents arise whilst they are deployed on our Armed Escort and Journey Management services.
The main purpose of first aid training is to preserve life, limit worsening of the condition and promote recovery. The most critical components of the Red Cross training for our Mantra personnel were first aid and CPR, which provided the knowledge to handle medical emergencies such as choking, cardiac arrest and trauma. The hands-on, practical training sessions also allowed our personnel to learn essential life-saving techniques on how to sustain life in the absence of professional medical help until advanced care is available. This is especially crucial given that we often operate our Armed Escort Services in remote or high-risk locations throughout Nigeria, which can be hard to reach for the emergency services.
The sessions also covered refresher training on the proper use of the emergency first aid kits that we carry in all of our vehicles, including how to utilise the correct medical supplies effectively in different scenarios and how to treat various types of injuries, including fractures and wounds.
The first aid training in conjunction with the Nigerian Red Cross Society is just one example of how we at Mantra go above and beyond to help keep our Clients safe and secure while they are travelling with us. By training our drivers and CPOs in these essential skills, our Clients will benefit immensely from having a highly trained team that can respond swiftly in the event of an emergency, particularly in high-risk situations or in remote geographical locations.
In addition to our highly trained teams, our Armed Escort Services include a back-up vehicle, which is readily available to step in and transport our Clients if required, so passengers can sit back and relax, certain in the knowledge that they will be kept safe and secure at all times.
