Why wait? Now is the perfect time to do business with Nigeria.

According to the IMF, the Nigerian economy is the largest in Africa (based on GDP) and is consistently growing year on year. Growth has been primarily driven by the Oil and Gas industry, but in recent years the Nigerian economy has also seen substantial growth in Digital Telecommunications, IT Services, Financial Services, Agriculture and Manufacturing industries. The African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA), which came into effect from January 2021, will also undoubtedly lead to a further increase in trade for Nigeria from within Africa, as a result of the reduction in tariffs and customs delays across internal borders.

In addition, at COP26 in November 2021, the Nigerian President, Mr Muhammadu Buhari, signed into law a Climate Bill committing his government to reduce emissions, adapt to climate change and set annual and five-year carbon budgets, in order to achieve an overall net zero carbon emissions target by 2060. As part of these plans, the Nigerian Government has been actively encouraging significant investment in renewable energy in the form of natural gas, hydroelectric and solar projects.

All of these investment opportunities will undoubtedly make Nigeria an appealing place to do business.

With excellent international transport links to Lagos (the financial centre of Nigeria) and the fact that English is the main language spoken throughout the country, many international companies (banks, financial institutions and other major corporations) have already chosen to locate their West African business operations in Nigeria.

However, Nigeria can still appear to be a challenging market to crack. Fears of corruption and crime are often unfounded, but if a company is considering entering the Nigerian market, the development of a comprehensive Security Plan will be of utmost importance. And that is where we can help.
